“L4D” Lan Play
FIRST OFF!! THIS IS A TUTORIAL ON HOW TO PLAY “LEFT 4 DEAD” ON LAN.
- NO NEED TO START STEAM
- NO HAMACHI NEEDED
- NO GOING OFFLINE STEAM
Release Used : “Left.4.Dead.Full-Rip.Skullptura“
Once UnRAR, Extracted… shortcut created… Then
right click on the shortcut > Properties > on the target line add “- console”
“C:\Left.4.Dead.Full-Rip.Skullptura\Left 4 Dead\left4dead.exe” “-console”
Double click the shortcut to get into the game. once loaded, a console should open up as well.
For simplicity reason, I bind the F12 key to toggle consle.
type “bind F12 toggleconsole”
With the console still open,type
sv_lan 1
to force the game into LAN mode. Then type
sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
to overrule the lobby. Now type
net_start
to get the server ready. The last step is to select a map; just type
map
(remember spacing after map), and a list of the different maps will pop up (you can select them with the mouse, or scroll through all of the with the arrow keys). The ones with “vs” in between is supposedly versus maps (haven’t checked).
Select a map and press enter and your server is up!
CLIENT SIDE!!
Add the “-console” to the shortcut on the client side. Then to connect to the server, simply type
connect “server ip”
DONE!!
Enjoy & have fun & Merry Christmas!!

I have successfully added the “-console” to the target line, but when I use the shortcut I do not get a console. Is this because I am using a different download from Skullptura?
I know how it works for me…
I use a diff. rip then Skullptura (blaze69), and have to go a different way:
1) Install Steam (Free versions are available).
2) Enter Steam, choose the My Games tab.
3) Click the “Add non-Steam Game…” button. Locate the left4dead.exe file.
4) Rightclick the new Shortcut in Steam, select Properties. Add -console at the end of the Target-marker.
5) Follow the previously written guide on Console-codes.
Good luck
Camberwell:
I am not sure how many version(s) of L4D is out there. did you add “-console” with the “” ? If not, you can always enable console from the options in the game.
Another way the open the client is to create a new text file and name it autoexec.cfg, then open it in notepad and type
Bind “f12″ “toggleconsole”
Save file then copy the autoexec to Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\cfg
Now, I have a problem:
I do manage to create the server, but I can’t get the client to join. It displays a message in red on the client’s console saying something about something having priority 1, and shows a popup saying that it tried to connect 10 times.
Any ideias?
I have not come across that error. I am not sure if you need to do this on the client side but I did it on some of the clients.
sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
sv_lan 1
btw. do you the exact error messages?? You are trying this on a LAN play right??
so what IP does the client have to connect to? the LAN ip(like 192.168.178.3?)or the actual ip from the computer itself(like 81.45.17.76)?
you connect using ip(like 192.168.178.3) your LAN ip.. not the actual ip address
ok thanks aric^^
Do both of the sides have to have the cracked L4D, or does one of the players can join while having a purchased copy?
Is best that all players are using the same version of L4D.
Savage cabbage boss, everything works loving ya
):DD
)
Thank you very much for the tips.
how do i put the -conole stuff??
where??
right click on the L4D shortcut > Properties > on the target line add “- console”
I plaid the 4 campaigns with bro. Now I get bored of them and download some nice looking unofficial campaigns. Unfortunetley each time I load themto play local, it launch a survival type… Any idea to launch the map as campaign rather than survival?
Thx!
